IN ACTION
WHO IS HE
He doesn’t fit in any classification.
He is not an actor, a comedian, a circus performer, a musician, a juggler, a performer of balancing acts, a clown… or rather he belongs to all these categories, trying to gain the most from each one and putting in something of himself.
Damiano Massaccesi is a versatile person, characterized by metamorphosis. Not to brag, but for simplicity, he accepts the epithet of “Artist”.
As a teenager, he was a dreamer and ready to open the way for the wonderful world of performance art scene. He approaches to circus and theater, looking at these worlds through the eyes of a child; he wishes to learn something new, he has a thirst for knowledge, he wants to get inside himself and inside the public’s soul.
The passion for this world is all-consuming and he decides that art will be his high road. He started as a self-taught person in the fields of juggler and performer of balancing acts. Then, he attended schools of circus, theater, clown and music, both in Italy and in Brazil.
Today, he is going on exploring this infinite universe, aiming to search for the poetic union between circus techniques and comedy.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
In 2008 he enters the ENC (Escola Nacional de Circo – National circus school) in Rio de Janeiro, where he studies disciplines like juggling, balancing acts and acrobatics. In the meantime, he studies acrobatics and air acrobatics together with “La Entrepida Trupe”. Over the years he attends many different clown seminars with: Esio Magagliaes (Brazil), Adelvane Neia (Brazil), Lili Curcio (Brazil), André Casaca (Brazil and Italy), Pierre Byland (Switzerland), Gonzalo Alarcon (Italy), Jonny Melville (Italy), Jef Jhonson, Les Rois Vagabonds (France), Enne Marx (Brazil), and others.
In 2010, in Brazil, he creates the company “Circo Godot de Teatro” including both Italian and Brazilian artists. They put on 3 shows: “Circo Godot” (2010), “Besteiras” (2011), “Le Petit Grandezas do Ser” (2013). Moreover, they take part to different festivals both in Italy and in South-America. In the meantime, Damiano goes on as an indipendent artist too.
He starts “Acrobati del Borgo”, an Italian circus-theater company dealing with shows on Medieval jesters. Together with this fellowship he creates “Di Borgo in Borgo”.
In 2016 he puts on the show Savoir-faire with the help of the assistant director Luciano Menotta.
He is currently studying the “merger” of Commedia dell’arte (Art comedy) and clown together with Luciano Menotta. In addition, with the enthusiasm of a child, he tirelessly continues to look for his own poetic union between circus techniques, clown and music, putting aside virtuosity and leaving room for emotions.
SHOW
HE GOES ON TIRELESSLY,
WITH THE ENTHUSIASM OF A CHILD, WHO NEVER ABANDONED HIM,
LOOKING FOR HIS OWN POETIC UNION
BEYWEEN CIRCUS TECHNIQUES, CLOWN AND MUSIC,
PUTTING ASIDE VIRTUOSITY
TO LEAVE THE ROOM FOR EMOTIONS.
The real source of wealth
and of personal growth is based on intepersonal relations and on dealing with other people. Damiano Massaccesi considers such things a cornerstone of his artistic life.
Over the years, indeed, he establishes many relationships and partnerships, especially with Italian and Brazilian artists. Each of them gave him precious moments, as well as the possibility to grow both from the artistic and the human point of view. Some collaborations lead to real adventures, challenges and artistic marriages.
It is thanks to these collaborations that in 2010, in Brazil, Damiano starts the “Compagnia Circo Godot de Teatro”, and in 2012, in Italy, the “Gli Acrobati del Borgo”, which is a circus-theater company dealing with shows on Medieval jesters. Along with these artists, he shares his love for stage, theater and circus.
